ABOUT US

New York Music Institute (NYMI) is dedicated to bringing the transformative power of music education to all New Yorkers.

Founded with the belief that music has the power to inspire, heal, and unite, NYMI provides accessible music education and cultural programming for people of all ages, backgrounds, and experience levels.

Our Vision

To create a world where everyone has access to quality music education and the opportunity to discover their musical potential.

Our Values

Community, accessibility, excellence, diversity, and the belief that music education is a fundamental right.

What We Do

We are a young organization, and we would rather tell you exactly what we run today than describe a catalogue we haven't built yet.

Right now that means two things. Every first Monday of the month we host a free community improvisation class led by the saxophonist Patience Higgins — open to anyone, no experience required, no charge. And in August and September we are running Jazz Mini-Week, four evenings of 50-minute classes with twelve New York jazz educators, presented with New York Jazz Workshop. Proceeds from it fund the free programming.

We are also building toward more: work with schools, masterclasses with visiting musicians, and programming that follows music across cultures. Those are being designed one partnership at a time, so if you run a school or a community organization and want to talk about what we could build together, get in touch.
